Who Are We

Tomahawk Baptist Church (TBC) is a multi-cultural community rooted in God’s unfailing love. We are committed to living generously, embodying Christ’s call to love our neighbor as ourselves, and making disciples who grow in faith and service. We are dedicated to the transforming power of forgiveness, celebrating God’s grace with hearts full of praise. Together, we seek to reflect the boundless love of God, cultivating a spirit of unity and hope for all.

TBC is deeply committed to fostering an authentic, life-changing relationship with God through intentional discipleship, service, and community engagement. The emphasis on shepherding people rather than just running programs speaks to a relational, people-first approach to ministry.

The vision of Helping all people experience God’s love and purpose for their life aligns beautifully with the mission of reaching the unchurched, the marginalized, and those hurt by organized religion. By anchoring the ministry in Romans 8:28, “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose,” No matter where you are on your journey, we invite you to come grow with us, build meaningful relationships, and walk together in faith.

What We Believe

We believe the Bible to be the only inspired, trustworthy and true, without error, Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16-17)

We believe there is one God, existing eternally in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. (John 10:30; John 14:26; Philippians 2:5-7)

We believe Jesus Christ is God, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in the miracles He performed, in His death and His shed blood on Calvary for the remission of our sins, in His resurrection from the dead, and in His return for His people, the bride of Christ. (John 1:1; Matthew 1:18,25; Hebrews 4:15; Hebrews 9:15-22; 1 Corinthians 15:1-8; Acts 1:9-11; Hebrews 9:27-28)

We believe that the acceptance and confession of Jesus Christ as Lord brings salvation and the free gift of the Holy Spirit, who lives within us and guides every Christian to live righteous and godly lives. (John 14:15-26; John 16:5-16; Ephesians 1:13-14)

We believe in eternal life, and that through belief in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, we spend eternity with the Lord in Heaven. We believe that in rejecting Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, we receive eternal suffering in hell. (Matthew 25:31-46; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

We believe in the spiritual unity and maturity of all believers in our Lord Jesus Christ, who are members of His body, the Church. (Philippians 2:1-4; Hebrews 6:1)

History

It is remarkable, really, that a church can have roots going back 247 years! But that is when Tomahawk Baptist Church began to meet together to create a faith community to follow Jesus and help impact the community in Chesterfield County.

Named after Tomahawk Creek, the original church was only a few miles from where it stands today. The present site, established in 1918 is actually the 3^rd location for TBC.

We believe strongly in honoring our history. We know we can only move forward today in strength and health because we are standing on the shoulders of those who have gone before us…following Jesus faithfully, serving and giving sacrificially, and leading boldly. However, we are not so tied to history that we ignore the needs of the present.

We believe TBC will continue to build on its remarkable legacy by being relevant in and for today’s world.
